Ancestor to the Gavial gharial (a long nosed modern crocodile). The family is known back to the Miocene from North and South America, Africa, and Asia, but the living species is found only in Asia from Pakistan and India to S.E. Asia. Primarily a fish eater, the snout was very long and slender with an enlarged nasal opening. The teeth were long and curved. Upper and lower teeth interlocked.
Our replica is cast from a nearly complete skull found in the phosphate deposits near Tampa, Florida. It is one of the finest representatives of the genus and species known from North America
