Details

Psittacosaurus was an Early Cretaceous ceratopsian dinosaur. The name Psittacosaurus means parrot lizard. Their top jaw is characterized by a prominent beak. Although not as well known as Triceratops, many more complete skeletons have been discovered. Hundreds of Psittacosaurs, of all stages of development, have been found in China.

These five Psittacosaurus babies are In Situ, which means they are displayed exactly as they were preserved. Although it may seem like they were in a nest because of their close proximity to one another, the sandstone that encased them holds no traces of nesting material. These young animals may have been surprised by a sudden dust storm.
