The eggs in this circular clutch were laid by a carnivorous (meat eating) dinosaur, or theropod. Theropod embryos have been found by researchers within similar shaped and textured eggs. Note the “layered tiers” of eggs. Nests with similar eggs have been dicovered with a parent (Oviraptor) still “sitting” in the brooding position over the eggs.
Note also the “pairing” of the individual eggs. This indicated that female theropod dinosaurs, unlike their bird relatives, had two sets of ovaries and oviducts and laid their eggs two eggs at a time, all at one sitting.
