Details

The ornithomimid dinosaurs had robust, toothless jaws, which would have been covered, in life, with a horny beak. A ring of bony plates protected their large eyes. Their brains were approximately the size of the modern day ostrich. What this enigmatic creature would have eaten remains a highly contested mystery. This specimen is one of the very few ornithomimids with a complete skull. Only two or three skulls have been found in the Judith River Formation. This replica is cast from the only ornithomimid skull ever found in the Hell Creek Formation.

Ornithomimosauria’s contemporaries included T. rexTriceratopsDenversaurusPachycephalosaurusThescelosaurus and Edmontosaurus. Create a Cretaceous display by including skulls of some, or all of these ancient animals.

Onithomimosaurid and Struthiomimus skulls make an interesting comparative exhibit.
